About Us

In 1993 Oshu city's Esashi-Fujiwara Heritage Park was selected as the Filming location for "Homuratatsu" a historical Japanese drama, originally created by a local Iwate writer "Katsuhiko Takahashi". It starred Ken Watanabe ("The Last Samurai", "Letters from Iwojima") and proved to be an immensely popular drama in Japan.

From this time the area came to be highly valued for its large scale environment and abundant natural beauty in creating period pieces. The office is part of the Oshu City Department of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and cooperates with the Oshu City departments of Law Enforcement and Fire.

We are proud of our area's specialized collection of buildings ranging from the Heian period to the Warring States Period of Japanese History as well as the area's splendid nature throughout the seasons. Therefore, we can confidently recommend this area to those who may wish to take advantage of such a beautiful setting.
